Welcome to Ellia Communications!  I’m Kathy Caprino, and I’m happy you’re here.  I’d like to share a bit about my personal story that prompted me to create Ellia Communications, and serve women to achieve breakthrough in their lives and work.

MY PERSONAL STORY
Briefly, I was a corporate marketing executive and spent 18 years in corporate life.  In the beginning, it was exciting and rewarding, and I enjoyed it.  But as I approached 40 years old (I’m 51 now), things began to change.  I was outwardly very “successful,” but inwardly I struggled.  My work began to feel false and inauthentic to me much of the time, and work-life balance was unattainable.  I couldn’t speak up truthfully or be my true self. I get sick frequently, was exhausted and drained much of the time, and my work didn’t feel meaningful or positive in the world.

I knew I needed outside help to reinvent my career, and reached out to get it, through working with a therapist, career counselor and mentor, etc.  But nothing moved me forward to make the changes I needed to.  I then began to experience all twelve of the “hidden” crises I write and speak about, including chronic illness, discrimination, financial struggle, feeling like I was wasting my real talents, missing my children’s lives, and longing to do something of greater meaning to me in my worklife.

Finally, after a brutal layoff in the days following the attacks of 9/11, I made a decision to reclaim my life.  I decided to help people, and not hurt and be hurt.  I earned a masters degree in marriage and family therapy, trained as a coach, and began speaking to women around Connecticut about thriving through life change.  I was astounded at what I found, which was that 9 out of 10 working women I spoke with were as miserable as I had been.  I decided I needed to understand why, and to be part of the solution.

So I conducted a yearlong national research study on women overcoming professional crisis, which culminated in my book Breakdown, Breakthrough about the 12 “hidden” crises working women face today and how to overcome them.  And I launched Ellia Communications.  I’ve learned a great deal in the past nine years — about corporate America, worklife challenge, midlife, transition, breakthrough, and the brilliance and courage of women today.

I now love my work, and am supremely fulfilled by it.  Of course, it’s not without its challenges and bumps, but I’m passionately committed every day to helping other women achieve breakthrough – in their work, businesses and in their lives.

If you are longing for greater success and fulfillment in your life and work, I hope you’ll reach out.  Call me at 203-834-9933 or email me at kathy@elliacommunications.com I’d love to be of service to you.

“Ellia” comes from the French word “elle” (meaning “she”) – and represents the power, wisdom, and vital role and impact of women the world over.  Ellia is also named for Kathy’s two children — Julia and Elliot.  Why “Communications” – because Kathy believes everything is communication – we can’t NOT communicate.  The key to a satisfying life is to understand who you are in the world, and to communicate and share who you are in powerful ways that serve others and the world.

About Caprino’s Empathic Parenting Workshop:

“Most impressive. Patent it, publish it, share it with prospective parents as well as new/current ones. Truly a comprehensive and meaningful workshop. I wish my kids could attend personally. In lieu of that I am sending it to them. I wish it had been available when I was struggling as a parent. At the very least your workshop will heighten the awareness of parents to the incredible responsibility of being a parent. That how a child is raised has such far- reaching ramifications for the rest of his/her life let alone the dynamic of the family while they are at home. It’s truly a great service to both parents and children.”

– Anne Dobbs, Naples, FL Business Owner, Parent, Grandparent

I am grateful for what she has helped me to achieve and look forward to what is to come.”

– T. R. Fairfield, CT

Kathy has this great ability to immediately put you at ease. The sense of trust that I felt allowed me to fully participate in our work together without hesitation – in her presence you are in a safe place. She is empathetic, yet able to cut right through to the heart of the problem to the things that were right in front of me but couldn’t see myself. She is encouraging, sincere, supportive, as well as practical – all of which helped me untangle the options and choices I was facing.”

“Kathy sets the stage for you to expand your world and meet your dreams.”

– P.A., Brewster, NY

Kathy has helped me become more self-aware and has guided me toward mending my inter-personal relationships. Kathy’s sensitivity and insight are just two of the characteristics that make her truly gifted in her field.”
