Call for Participation!
National
Research Study with 9/11 Survivors
Mike Jaffe and
Kathy Caprino are currently conducting a
national research study about life-altering
events experienced by 9/11 survivors who,
through a "random" act of fate, narrowly
escaped the 9/11 attacks and have been
changed because of it.
In this study, we're focusing on individuals
who consider their direct experience and
narrow escape on 9/11 a true "wake up call"
and have made significant changes in life
and work because of it.
We are exploring vital findings on a wide
range of concepts and experiences(emotional, behavioral,
cultural, and spiritual) that will add to
our understanding of what contributes to
and maintains powerful life change.
For those who fit the criteria and would
like to participate, or for more
information, please click

Please forward this to anyone you know who may be
interested. Thank you |

July Greetings!

As I'm
focusing my work these days on helping people
live their true spirits, and achieve a
breakthrough in life and work, I've learned the vital
importance of the question, "Am I yearning for a job or
a calling?"
Please read the article below if this
question sparks your interest.
Pursuing
creativity is key for all of us to live passionate
lives. I hope my previous newsletter helped spur your
creativity on. If you missed it, here's a link to
"Is Your Creativity Flowing?"
Walking my
talk, I'm moving forward with a commitment to write
a screenplay based on a compelling idea I've had for two
years (of an intense past life memory that breaks
through into a women's life, changing it forever). I
took a fabulous screenwriting workshop this weekend
given by the
Westport Writers' Workshop and facilitated by
Patrick McCord of
The Editing Company, and I feel very energized about
it.
I'm so
loving this new writing experience (a screenplay is
quite different from a non-fiction personal development
book!) And I'm keeping up with my singing, which feeds
my soul as well. (FYI the pix above features fabulous
vocalist
Lorraine Ferro -- on the left -- and me during our
recording session for the theme song for
The Momference (music composed by my husband
Arthur Lipner.) What fun!
For
information about upcoming Ellia workshops and seminars
this September, including my
Live Your True Spirit!, please see

If you're
local and want to explore the deep wisdom and mystery of
the tarot coupled with powerful life coaching to move
you forward (and have some great fun in the process!),
please join me and Beth Leas, renowned energy healer and
Founder of the
Total Life Care Center, for a fascinating evening of
discovery and possibility (see below for more).
Thank you
for reading and sharing. Looking forward to connecting
with you soon.
Wishing
you many happy breakthroughs,
Kathy

6-Week Breakthrough Workshop with Kathy Caprino -
Finally! Express the
Real
You
-
Are you feeling that the road you are on--the life
or career
you've built-- doesn't reflect the "real" you?
-
Have you
traveled down one path so far that it feels
overwhelming to take another?
-
Do you wish
for change, but feel stuck as to
what you really want to do next?
-
Do you have
intuitive hunches about what you'd like to do, but
feel unsure if you're to follow them?
If the answer is "yes" to any of these questions, this workshop
will help you explore your life and career, gain an
understanding of what is missing, and identify what is
longing to be expressed in this lifetime. By examining
the outward life and/or career you've built, then
understanding how it falls short of your dreams and
visions, we'll be journeying inward to find your "home"-
the spiritual you that is ready and waiting to be
expressed.
Each week for six weeks, in a small, informal group we will meet to
explore what needs to be expressed and honored in your
life in order to increase movement, ease, excitement,
and joy. Through discussion, exercises, imagery, and
exploration, you'll get in touch with your unique spirit
and essence as a special and deeply valued individual on
this planet now, and find new, energizing and practical
ways to begin walking down a more expansive and
fulfilling path in both life and work.
Program Topics include:
1. Your Current Path and What it
Represents
2. Living Your Spirit - What is Missing from
Your Life and
Career
3. Overcoming Fears and Blocks and Following
Your Intuition
4. Discovering Your Passion, Power, and Purpose
5. Clarifying What You Wish to Do Next
6. Moving Forward Toward Your Visions
Attendees of this Program will:
-
Gain clarity
on what needs to be expressed more fully in your
life
-
Learn at
least six new tools and approaches to hear the
messages of your spirit and intuition to guide you
going forward
-
Understand
(and release) what's holding you back from achieving
your visions
-
Develop a
clear course for designing the next chapter of life
and work that reflects the real you
-
Take concrete
steps towards living your compelling visions for
life and work

Are You Longing for a Job or a Calling?
|
|
By Kathy Caprino
In
focusing my work these days on helping people
achieve a true breakthrough in their careers and
lives, I've observed (and
personally lived) the vital impact of asking
this question of yourself, "Am I longing for a
job or a calling?" - and answering it with
brutal honestly.
Several
months ago, I read a very thought-provoking
article by Michael Lewis, columnist for
Bloomberg News, about the difference between a
"calling" and a job. He had some very powerful
insights about the
differences.
Here's the
article (it's certainly worth a read, especially
in today's times):
A Wall Street Job Can't Match a Calling in Life:
Michael Lewis
What
struck me most deeply in Michael's article were
two sentiments:
"There's a direct relationship between risk and
reward. A fantastically rewarding career usually
requires you to take fantastic risks."
and
"A calling is an activity you find so compelling
that you wind up organizing your entire self
around it -- often to the detriment of your life
outside of it."
I couldn't agree more.
Over the years, I've worked with hundreds of individuals who
dream of having a fantastic and thrilling
career, but in some essential ways aren't
willing to embrace or take on (in their external
or internal world) what's required to achieve
it.
What is required then? Here's a
list of traits and characteristics that I
believe are essential to having a fantastically
rewarding career (or following a calling):
- True commitment (this is not about wanting - this is about committing
to having)
- A wellspring of energy
- Frequent and continual leaps of faith and
hope
- Self-esteem and self-confidence to know that
your dream is achievable
- Openness to learn from your mistakes and to
get help when needed
- A healthy dose of reality about what's
necessary to succeed on this path
- Great risk-acceptance and tolerance
- The belief that you simply can't live without
pursuing this career
- A very tough skin
- An ability to "power up" (gain strength,
confidence, and self-mastery) as you expand
- And finally, strong boundaries that allow you
to speak up for yourself and protect yourself
from others who would diminish you
I agree with Michael that neither approach to work is better (a
job or calling); they're just different. "There
are costs and benefits to both." You may have a
job you enjoy (or can live with) yet know that
what makes you feel passionate and powerful is
not your job, but outside interests and
experiences.
Or you may feel you have a calling, and will do anything to
follow it.
The key to a fulfilling life is to follow your authentic path
(personally and professionally) - one that
lights you up on the inside, and motivates you
to be all you can be.
Michael's final words hit the mark - the critical question is not
what the world can give you, but what you can
contribute to the world, in a way that fills
your soul and brings you great joy while doing
it.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and insights:
1) Are you pursuing a job or a
calling? Which works best for you?
2) If you feel you have a fantastic career
and/or personal life, what did it take to get
it?
3) What advice can you give for others about the
benefits and risks to having a job vs. following
a calling?
Either way, it's a choice. But
making this choice
consciously and with integrity is
the difference between a frustrating,
lack-luster experience that chronically fails to
satisfy, versus
living full out - and expressing
your true spirit all along the way. Choose
well. |
